PHARMACY - EVOLUTION OR EXTINCTION?

asd0

In an era when we know pharmacy in its present format is doomed…or is it?

I myself know pharmacy will never die.. We will all die at some point it’s the one universal inescapable truth but pharmacy will continue on…

Pharmacy has to evolve. The rules of the game are changing and yes we may be halfway in the game and yes we have no control and say on the rule book, so it seems especially with failed court action against the funding cuts as of late.

Many of us hark and scream .. continue to moan as if our whinging won’t fall on deaf ears and somehow turn into fruition that our voice is being heard and the changes reversed to leave pharmacy in its current meandering state blind to the changes ever present in an aging society and an NHS in crisis?

No certainly not.. pharmacy has to wake up and shake up!

Why are some of us so blind?

Evolution occurs when the environmental factors and all that is around.. forces our hand to adapt or die.

Evolve or risk extinction and yes mutations ..cancers..are what fuels radical change but as we are no doubt aware radical changes can be deadly only a few are advantageous and so passed on traits to the future generations.

What worked yesterday…. does not work today

What works today will NOT work tomorrow!

Why does pharmacy think it’s any different?

But instead of cancerous change we need persistent consistent supported change from the NHS and our peers from all sectors. This will help our transition and reduce the negativity that unfortunately is far too rife amongst our peers.

Now I ask you a simple exercise and 5 minutes of your time, in the 1440 minutes bestowed upon us every day surely this is no big ask?

What makes Pharmacy so special?

Seriously ask yourself that question and give yourself five minutes to write down on the nearest piece of paper what comes into your head.

Go crazy do not stop jotting as if in some sort of ancient trance. Allow your brain to spill all that makes you and Pharmacy as you know it special. Be a child on Christmas jotting down their present list.

Point being don’t stop and keep writing, just flow from your brain to paper.

Don’t analyse just write from your heart, brain, gut or whatever you want to call it

write

Write

WRITE

Once your 300 seconds is up. Look at that piece of paper.

Now analyse and seriously question what you have written.

What validity is there to your reasons or are they merely melancholy of a bye gone era … the good old days?

Or is it something you truly are proud of and believe in?

Every year the sets of challenges grow, the more hoops we have to keep jumping though at times.

Yet it sometimes seems the majority among us don’t see them as challenges but problems to protest and cry over.

Challenges must be met and overcome that my peers is what shall set us apart, that my peers is what shall give us the edge, but only if we and not we the minority but we the majority start to realise that change is upon us and we must embrace it.

Overcome the FEAR that holds us back and realise for what it is.

False Evidence Appearing Real

Innovation is a buzzword thrown about like its actually something being done but what is it that is actually being done?

Or is it really just improving something, solving challenges and addressing needs

What problems Are pharmacist solving? I can be typing a list until my fingers are numb, but what’s your list…you are indeed an innovator to every patient you help, to every service you do, you have a legacy every time you improve a patient outcome.

Be proud, I for one THANK YOU and say well done to you.

But more importantly does the public or politicians realise what you actually do, day in day out and how you contribute to the NHS and further still how you can step up to the NHS crisis and keep delivering like you always have.

That there is our real problem and it’s great to see campaigns like AskYourPharmacist and more initiatives led by our peers, but this is merely the beginning and requires all our wholehearted support regardless of what sector you are in

YOUR PROFESSION IS AT A CALL TO ARMS

PHARMACY NEEDS YOU

DON’T LIE DOWN AND DIE

RISE UP AND FIGHT IN OUR EVER CHANGING WORLD

EVOLUTION IS UPON US…

EMBRACE THE CHANGE AND OWN IT!
